Asphalt is a composition of graded aggregates bound together with bitumen and commonly delivered to site in blocks for re-melting. The asphalt is heated in a cauldron or mixer to a temperature of approximately 235 degrees centigrade and once molten can be laid. The thickness of the asphalt can vary from 13mm thick two coat to 20mm thick three coat for vertical surfaces and 20mm thick and upwards to horizontal surfaces. Asphalt can be used in a wide variety of locations from tanking a basement, waterproofing a balcony, damp proofing a floor to weather proofing a roof. Insulation if required can be introduced to create a warm or inverted roof. Finishes can be painted, stone chippings, ballast, slabs, timber decking, garden roofs etc. The membrane can be installed to any degree of pitch.
